Why Beeswax – What Makes a Beeswax Candle Special

Warum Bienenwachs – was eine Bienenwachskerze besonders macht

Before we pour a candle, the same thing is always there: a bucket of wax. Warm, honey-coloured, heavy. And before we even touch it, the whole studio smells of summer.

Beeswax is perhaps the oldest candle material we know. People have been making light from it for thousands of years. Today there are many other waxes – cheaper, easier to process, industrial. We chose beeswax anyway. Because a beeswax candle isn't simply a candle. It's a piece of nature that lives on in the room.

Where Our Beeswax Comes From

Our wax comes from beekeepers in Brandenburg. No long routes, no intermediate stations, no imports. The bees gather nectar on meadows, lindens, black locust trees – and the wax carries that place within it. As it melts, it smells of everything the bees have seen. Of grass, of honey, of warm air.

Beeswax doesn't come from a factory. It's produced inside the hive itself, from small wax glands on the bodies of the bees. To make a single kilogram of wax, they fly distances that are hard to imagine. That's why real beeswax is precious. And why we treat it with respect – filter, clarify, pour. Nothing more happens.

How Beeswax Burns

A beeswax candle burns differently from other candles. The melting point is higher, the wax liquefies more slowly, and so a beeswax candle lasts noticeably longer. The light is softer, almost golden, reminiscent of evening light in late summer.

Beeswax produces little soot when the wick is well chosen. It burns clean and even. And it has a scent of its own – of honey, of meadow, of warmth. This natural scent is quiet, never intrusive, and it forms the ground on which the pure essential oils stand. The oils don't push against the wax – they bond with it.

Why We Choose Beeswax Above All

Because it's honest. A material people have known for as long as candles have existed. Nothing is added, nothing is taken away. Beeswax is what it is – and that's exactly what we want in our candles.

Because it belongs to nature. It comes from bees, from blossoms, from sun. And in every candle from our studio, a little of that cycle is along for the ride.

And because you feel it. Even before you light it, the moment you pick up the candle, beeswax feels different. Warm in colour, slightly soft on the surface, and quietly fragrant of honey even while still unlit.

A beeswax candle burns slower, warmer, quieter. As if it were in no hurry itself. And maybe that's the real reason we pour it – because it gives the room a little of that calm.
